The Jackfruit

Well, K & I recently returned home from a trip to L.A. to visit family. It was a great trip, so nice to get some sunshine on my pasty white skin in the middle of January. I seriously felt like I was drying off. A few years ago we had been down in San Jose & picked up a Jackfruit from someone selling it on the side of the road & it was delicious. Sooo, that was what I wanted, no needed to find. Although it's a bit early in the season for these monsterous fruits, K was able to track one down at a fruit stand! Check it out! I could barely wait to get this baby home & crack into it. Although it was all I could smell on the drive home to Portland.

The jackfruit has such a unique tropical taste that it's difficult to describe. You eat the yellow part around the seed, it's such a big fruit & there's lots of waste, but it's worth every yummy bite. I wanted to use it in a recipe but couldn't keep any around long enough to do that!

First Post!!

I am a little nervous about this whole blogging thing, but everyone makes it look so easy, wonderful, & fun that I cannot not give it a try! I woke up this morning to SNOW! Fluffy powdery snow everywhere. I hope it will stick around for a few days, I wouldn't mind the break from routine & the opportunity to fire up the oven because there is no where to go, let it snow! The first photo is the view from my poor coffee table out in the cold. I'd need a real toasty cup of hot chocolate to brave sitting out there. The other picture is from my kitchen window Well, I'm off to play in the kitchen I'm thinking that making homemade hot chocolate and whipping cream is sounding really good right now, hopefully I have all the things I'll need , I'm excited to see how much snow piles up!
